Route one

Hidden Heritage of Easter Ross

Join me on a journey through the fascinating history of Easter Ross, from medieval Tain and its Clan Ross connections to the atmospheric surroundings of Fearn Abbey.

After a leisurely lunch by the coast, we’ll discover the remarkable Shandwick Stone — an original Pictish monument whose intricate carvings have survived for over a thousand years.

With ancient stories, charming villages and a few unexpected discoveries along the way, this tour is particularly rewarding for visitors with Clan Ross ancestry or an interest in Scotland’s early history.

Route two

Picts, Pilgrims & the Highland Coast

Picts, Pilgrims & the Highland Coast

Come with me to explore the remarkable heritage of the Tarbat Peninsula, where ancient Pictish carvings, early Christian history and dramatic coastal scenery come together.

From the extraordinary Nigg Stone to the archaeological discoveries at Portmahomack’s Tarbat Discovery Centre, there’s a fascinating story around almost every corner.

After time for a relaxed lunch, we’ll continue towards Tarbat Ness Lighthouse, surrounded by sweeping sea views and the open Highland landscape. A lovely combination of history, archaeology and the refreshing air of the Scottish coast.

Route three

Highland Landscapes, Whisky & Heritage

Let me take you through some of Easter Ross and Sutherland’s loveliest scenery, beginning with the sweeping views across the Dornoch Firth from Struie Hill.

Discover the character of Balblair Distillery, with the opportunity for a whisky tour and tasting by advance arrangement, before exploring historic Dornoch and the beautiful Seaboard Villages.

Along the way, we’ll encounter the remarkable heritage of the Hilton of Cadboll Stone, combining ancient history, spectacular landscapes and a little Scotch whisky into one memorable Highland experience.

What to expect

A day that has room to breathe

I like to leave room for the unexpected — a conversation with a local, a view worth lingering over, or an extra stop that catches your eye. The route is thoughtfully planned, but there’s always room for a little spontaneity.

01 Stories along the way

From ancient Pictish carvings to fascinating local characters, I enjoy sharing the history and stories that bring the Highland landscape to life.

02 Lunch without the rush

A leisurely lunch is part of the pleasure. I’ll suggest welcoming local places where we can enjoy a bite to eat and perhaps a little Highland hospitality.

03 A little flexibility

Some historic sites and distilleries have seasonal opening times. I’ll check arrangements beforehand and suggest suitable alternatives where necessary.

Let’s plan your Highland day

Have a date in mind, a particular place you’d love to visit, or perhaps some family history you’d like to explore?

Whether you’re arriving by cruise ship in Invergordon or staying in the Highlands, tell me a little about your plans and interests. I’ll be delighted to suggest a memorable day tailored to you.
