Meet your host

Ronny Rehse, Highland host

Originally from Germany, I’ve called the Scottish Highlands home for more than 25 years. Based near the Royal Burgh of Tain, I’ve developed a deep affection for the region’s remarkable history, landscapes and people.

For more than a decade, I’ve had the pleasure of welcoming visitors from around the world as a whisky host and brand ambassador at a leading Highland distillery. Sharing the fascinating world of Single Malt Scotch whisky has been both my profession and my passion.

Whisky still intrigues me — from that wonderfully satisfying little plop when opening a bottle to the way a dram can reveal something entirely new with a drop of water. And I’ve always believed there’s no right or wrong way to enjoy whisky — only what you enjoy.

These days, I combine that passion with my love of Highland history through personally hosted whisky tastings and private tours.

Whether we’re exploring an ancient Pictish monument or discovering the stories behind a fine dram, my approach remains the same: relaxed, engaging and personal, with plenty of good conversation along the way.

Echoes of the Landscape

Exploring the history and forgotten stories of Easter Ross

My fascination with Highland history led me to research and write Echoes of the Landscape, published in 2026.

Across approximately 200 pages and more than 60 illustrations, the book explores the remarkable heritage of Easter Ross — from ancient Pictish monuments and medieval churches to the lives, traditions and changing fortunes of its coastal communities.

It’s a landscape where history is rarely far beneath the surface. An old church, a weathered gravestone or a seemingly ordinary village can reveal an extraordinary story.

Much of this research now finds its way into my private Highland tours. Visiting these places in person, and sharing the stories behind them, brings another dimension to the experience.

For anyone interested in discovering more about this fascinating corner of Scotland, Echoes of the Landscape offers a journey through its history, people and places.

Hosting in your language

Personal hosting, in English or German

Having grown up in Germany and made Scotland my home more than 25 years ago, I’m equally comfortable hosting in English or German.

Whether we’re discussing the finer points of Scotch whisky or uncovering a little-known chapter of Highland history, I want every guest to feel welcome, relaxed and able to join the conversation.

I believe the most memorable experiences are rarely the most hurried.

Whether you’re visiting the Highlands on a cruise excursion, staying at a country estate or gathering with friends for a whisky tasting, I’ll take the time to understand your interests and make the occasion your own.

Good hospitality, fascinating stories and a little Highland humour — that’s what I hope you’ll take away.
